Roles within AYSO Region 889
Every job is part of providing your children with a wonderful soccer experience. We will ask you to volunteer for one role that benefits the whole region (not just one team) equalling about 4 hours of your time per season.
Coach/Assistant Coach:
Coaches will attend training and then run practices, communicate with their teams, communicate with the Division Managers, and develop their team to have fun and learn soccer skills. Training provided for free.
Referee
Referees will attend training and mentoring, and then sign up to officiate games as either the Center Referee or Assistant Referee. Games are available online so the referee can sign up as his/her schedule permits. Each team needs to provide at least 3 referees. Referee participation is a key factor in the U8 and older divisions and their eligibility to play in playoffs. This is the perfect job for someone who wants to be involved, but cannot commit the time to coach or for a coach that wants to be more involved with their other children in AYSO.
Board Member
There are several opportunities to shape our Region by taking a Board Position. Open Board positions may include anything from the Regional Commissioner to Photo Day Coordinator, and everything in-between. For a complete list of open positions, please click here and email our Regional Commissioner for details.
Meet Your Team Day
Every summer before we begin practices, we host a one-day Meet Your Team Day. Responsibilities here will vary from facility setup, facility cleanup, helping teams find their assigned meeting areas, working with sponsors, and various other tasks.
Photo Day
Each fall we host a Team Photo Day where every team comes to say "cheese" all together for the official team photo. We need help passing setting up, cleaning up, getting teams to their assigned photo stations, and passing out materials as needed.
Fields Pre-Season/Post Season & Field Maintenance
Oh the work it takes to prepare the fields prior to each season. Work here is more of the manual labor type and may include moving goals, fixing grass, cleaning out the onsite storage sheds, and stocking sheds with necessary materials to begin or end a season.
Field Marshall
The duties would include setting up/taking down the corner flags, placing goals, and performing a safety inspection. Each team will be required to have one field marshall.
Data Entry
Following each registration event a tremendous amount of paperwork is bestowed upon our Region and must be processed through eAYSO in order for team formation to begin. This is a simple sit-down and process paperwork job. Training will be provided for access into the eAYSO system to perform data entry tasks.
Some jobs you do just because you love them, but you look back and wonder where the time went. Then you look at a crowd of happy kids playing soccer and you know it was worth it.
Come get involved because at AYSO we all volunteer and at Region 889 #weLoveVolunteers
